Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium

Churaumi Aquarium is an aquarium located in the northwestern part of the main island of Okinawa.

Churaumi Aquarium is well known for its whale sharks and reef manta rays that swim in one of the largest aquariums in the world.Until the opening of the Georgia Aquarium in the United States in 2005, the Churaumi Aquarium was the largest aquarium in the world.Churaumi means “beautiful sea” in the Okinawan dialect.There are 67 aquariums in total at Churaumi Aquarium.

The aquarium named “Kuroshio Sea” installed on the 1st and 2nd floors of Churaumi Aquarium is 35m long, 27m wide, 10m deep and 7,500 cubic meters of water, which is one of the largest in the world.
